1: Classroom Computhinks: Teaching and Assessing Computational Thinking in the Key Stage 2 classroom

For my MSc in Computing in Education, I have been researching how to help children develop computational thinking skills at Key Stage 2, then how to assess their acquisition of these skills.

I am designing a set of lesson plans called Classroom Computhinks which will facilitate the learning of computational thinking through solving real-world classroom problems with the help of the Computational Thinking Crew.

I would like to present my work so far at the Festival of Computing by presenting my epistemology based on current research into computational thinking in education. I will outline how this developed from a simple class changeover situation in my own classroom into a pedagogy rooted in organisational autonomy and then share my work to date in producing lesson plans and curriculum content.

“We’ve done Scratch!” – a challenge for educators

How do we as educators show learners the vast array of possibilities available in Scratch? What are some of the different ways that we can encourage children to develop their depth of skills? The boundaries of Scratch are children’s own limits of imagination – let’s explore how to stretch these boundaries.
